My Philosophy for Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language
Language is best learned through engaging, meaningful conversation. When students discuss topics that interest them, they naturally acquire vocabulary, sharpen their listening skills, and develop a deeper understanding of language nuances. In my approach, authentic dialogue is the gateway to fluency, allowing students to see how words and phrases interconnect in everyday life.
To support this learning process, I integrate mini-grammar lessons into our discussions—tailoring them to suit foundational needs or more advanced interests. I also use visual aids and props to make challenging concepts more accessible, ensuring that every lesson is as practical as it is engaging.
Throughout my teaching career, I have seen firsthand how effective communication can transform lives. Working with non-native English speakers, I encountered many students and families struggling to express their needs due to language barriers. This experience motivated me to earn a Teaching English as a Second Language degree, equipping me with practical strategies and tools to help each student reach their fullest potential.
To further deepen my understanding of the language-learning journey, I embarked on my own adventure by learning Spanish and immersing myself in the culture during a three-month stay in Mexico. This experience enriched my empathy and enabled me to offer guidance that is both educational and experiential.
I’ve found that the most successful learners combine hard work and clear goal-setting with a sense of humor and enjoyment. With dedication, a bit of fun, and a supportive learning environment, I firmly believe that nothing is impossible in language learning.
I am passionate about helping you overcome language barriers and achieve your English language goals through conversation, practical strategies, and a supportive, engaging approach.
